INFRAMAG for the future transport
The three alternatives have in common that they only have electric operation. The direction values that apply to each transport option are specified below. We will make the comparison in three main options. The train is an InfraMag train and with the speed set to 450 km/h. The car is a Tesla modell S. The flight has its values in what is shown today, electric operation and with a speed of 500 km/h.
1. Time for carrying out the transport
2. Energy consumption for the transport
3. The energy efficiency per passenger
The start and final destination are the same in the three different options. This means that a comparison can be made between the three modes of transport. This is not a scientific study but can be seen as an indication of how the different modes of transport compare to each other. On this page, time differences for the same modes of transport are shown. A corresponding page shows the energy consumption for the different modes of transport. Reported energy consumption per passenger.
Stockholmd is chosen as the departure destination, as most trains and flights out of the country depart from Stockholm.
The destinations that will be compared are:
Stockholm - Gävle - Sundsvall - Örnsköldsvik - Umeå - Luleå -Kirunna
Stockholm - Malmö, Stockholm - Göteborg, Stockhoolm - Oslo, Göteborg - Malmö, Göteborg - Oslo
On this page only the time aspects will be published:
Energy and the energy consumption as well as the energy efficiency per passenger can be found on the Energy per passenger page.
Conditions when traveling with the high-speed train and how to can use the travel time
Conditions when traveling by car and how to use it
travel time
The high-speed train | Can use the travel time to work |
The high-speed train | 100 % |
Car | Can use the travel time to work |
Car | No, only discussions between passengers or via mobile |
Conditions when traveling by air and how to use the travel time
Air transport | Activity | Time factor | Can use the travel time to work |
Train | Connection Arlanda | 20 min | Doubtful |
Walk | Check-in | 15 min | impossible |
Air transport | Active flight time | Depending on the distance | Difficulties |
Bus | Bus transfer | 30 -45 min | Doubtful |
If you go into the results of each section, it appears in the summary below
Compilation of the results of the time consumption for each connection
Connection from Stockholm

Stockholm - Gävle | 48 min 45 sek | 1 h 29 min | 1 h 29 min | |
Stockholm -Sundsvall | 1 h 16 min | 52 min 40 sek | 4 h 32 min | 1 h 50 min The battery would need to be charged 1 time. Add to 1 h |
Stockholm - Örnsköldsvik | 1 h 45 min | 1 h 13 min | 5 h 41 min | 2 h 03 min The battery would have to be charged twice. Add 2 hours |
Stockholm - Umeå | 2h 4 min | 1 h 28 min | 7 h 8 min May need to be charged for 1 h | 2 h 12 min The battery would have to charge twice, add 2 h |
Stockholm Luleå | 3 h 28 min | 2 h 5 min 20 sek | 12 h 17 min incl. 1 h for charging batteries | 2 h 37 min The battery would need to be charged 3 times, add 3 h |
Stockhoim - Haparanda | 4 h 5 min | 2 h 20 min | 14 h 5 min incl. 1 h for charging the battery |
3 h 12 min Batteries would need to be charged 4 times add 4 h |
Haparanda - Helsingfors |
2 h 27 min | 1 h 35 min | 9 h 19 min incl. 1 hour for charging the battery | There is no flight that can be compared with. |
There are no electric airplanes that can cover the distances today.
The sections should therefore be closed. The Electric Flight in the near future will have a range of 250 km and a maximum speed of 500 km/h and a maximum of 50 passengers
